Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine took part in the professional meetings on the constitutional and legal topics
On November 20-23, 2016 delegation of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine composed of judges Viktor Kolisnyk, Viktor Kryvenko, Ihor Slidenko, and Stanislav Shevchuk took part in the professional meetings on the constitutional and legal topics held in Bonn, Germany organised with the assistance of German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ).
The visit was a continuation of the traditional Ukrainian and German meetings to exchange scientific and methodological experience between the bodies of constitutional jurisdiction of the two countries. The programme included discussion of important theoretical and practical aspects of modern constitutional justice.
The event was attended by representatives of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany - Prof. Dr. Reinhard Geyer (acting judge) and Prof. Dr. Udo Steiner (former judge), Dr. Matthias Hartwig (Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, Heidelberg) and Director of German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) Veronika Keller-Engels, who welcomed the Ukrainian delegation.
At the first day of meetings judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine told German colleagues about the state of constitutional reform in Ukraine and new powers of constitutional jurisdiction in Ukraine. During the discussion the participants dwelt upon: “Constitutional Court as the guardian of the democratic constitutional order” and “Interrelation of the case-law of the European Court of Human Rights and legal positions of the Federal Constitutional Court of Germany and the Constitutional Court of Ukraine”. The participants also addressed the problems that arise in the activities of the Federal Constitutional Court in view of the application of the ECHR case-law.
The second day was devoted to “Organisation of work of constitutional courts in view of the new powers of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine introduced under the constitutional reform”.
In conclusion the participants expressed mutual hope for further constructive cooperation and regular professional discussions.
