The Venice Commission firmly condemned Russia’s act of aggression against Ukraine
According to the synopsis of the 130th Plenary Session of the Venice Commission, https://www.venice.coe.int/webforms/documents/default.aspx?pdffile=CDL-PL-PV(2022)001syn-f which took place on March 18-19 this year:
The Venice Commission heard a message from Serhiy Holovaty, a member of the Venice Commission in respect of Ukraine, who was prevented from taking part in the Plenary Session on account of the war in Ukraine, and adopted a Statement in support of Ukraine reading as follows:
“The Venice Commission fully supports the published statement made by the President of the Venice Commission regarding the “aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine” on March 1, 2022 https://www.venice.coe.int/webforms/events/?id=3303
The Commission firmly condemns this act of aggression perpetrated by the Russian Federation and mourns the loss of human lives and chagrins at the devastating destruction in Ukraine.
The Commission, whose full name is the European Commission for Democracy through Law, is fully committed to the mission reflected in the preamble to the Statute of the Council of Europe: to seek peace on the basis of justice and international cooperation, which is life-giving for the preservation of mankind and civilization.
The Commission expresses its indivisible solidarity with Ukraine, which is fighting to defend our common European principles and values – democracy, human rights and the rule of law”.
