On 25 September 2024, judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine participated in the VIII Kharkiv International Legal Forum. This forum has already become an important platform for the exchange of experience between leading lawyers, academics, government and business representatives from more than 35 countries. This year's event was focused on the most pressing issues of legal science and practice, as well as the challenges faced by Ukraine, in particular in the context of war, globalisation and the need to remove excessive legal barriers to sustainable development.
During the panel discussion “The Future of Ukrainian Constitutionalism in the Context of Integration into the European Union”, judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine together with Ukrainian and international experts discussed the most important aspects of the development of constitutional justice in Ukraine and its adaptation to the EU standards. They discussed, in particular, the necessary amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine to meet the requirements of the European Union, analysis of changes in law enforcement and human rights protection in accordance with EU standards, and EU best practices in institutional reform and good governance for their implementation in Ukraine.
Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine presented their opinions on these issues:
- Viktor Gorodovenko delivered a presentation on “Constitutional Justice and the Path to the EU: Prospects and Challenges”.
- Viktor Kolisnyk delivered a presentation on “Frameworks of Ukrainian constitutionalism and problems of organising elections in the post-war period”.
