On April 3, Oleksandr Petryshyn, the Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, held a meeting with Virgilius Valančius, Senior International Expert, EU Project Pravo-Justice, a judge of the General Court of the EU (2016-2023).
The main topic of the conversation was a discussion of the judicial architecture of the European Union and EU law and support from European partners in the context of Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
The parties exchanged views on developing mechanisms to strengthen international cooperation between EU bodies. Particular attention was paid to establishing a bilateral dialogue between judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and colleagues from foreign constitutional review bodies and the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union, in particular in the areas of constitutional interpretation and protection of fundamental rights and freedoms.
