Yurii Shcherbak on the challenges of the XXI century

Today, November 24, a meeting of judges and employees of the Court with Yurii Shcherbak took place in the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. Yurii Shcherbak is a public figure, politician, diplomat, doctor of medical sciences, doctor-epidemiologist, activist of the environmental movement, Ukrainian writer, screenwriter, and publicist. He was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Israel, the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Yurii Shcherbak participated in many negotiations at the highest level in Kyiv, Washington, Jerusalem, Ottawa, Warsaw, Mexico City, and Madrid. His creative work includes more than a hundred scientific articles, screenplays and more than 30 books published and translated in various countries around the world.

Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Holovaty introduced the honorary guest to the staff of the Court and emphasised his titanic work for the benefit of the Ukrainian State.

During the meeting with the judges and employees of the Court, many topical issues were raised. First of all the participants talked about the danger of pandemics on world civilization, in particular, the coronavirus pandemic, which has become a major global challenge.

Yurii Shcherbak shared his experience in fighting epidemics of cholera, smallpox, rabies prevention and other infectious diseases. He spoke about the consequences of pandemics, including the Spanish influenza (1918–1920) and the current COVID-19 pandemic. The doctor of medicine stated that the coronavirus disease caused unprecedented threats to human life and health. According to the epidemiologist, the pandemic has brought misfortune to millions of families, posed a huge challenge to the health systems of many countries, caused economic and political crises, and ultimately changed the vector of world civilization.

Yurii Shcherbak noted that we live in a difficult XXI century, in an era of paradigm shift in world development. Moreover, in this era, in his opinion, only strong states and nations will survive. At the same time, he stressed that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is one of the pillars of the legal and moral existence of the Ukrainian State.
