In the case on the constitutionality of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language”, the Court proceeded to the in-camera part of the plenary session for a decision
Today, July 9, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine continued consideration of the case upon the constitutional petition of 51 People's Deputies of Ukraine on the compliance of the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as the State Language” of April 25, 2019 № 2704 – VIII with the Constitution of Ukraine (constitutionality).
During the plenary session, the Court heard the positions of the participants in the constitutional proceedings on the subject matter of constitutional review, namely: representative of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Head of the Expert Group on Policy Support of the Strategic Planning and European Integration Directorate Oleksandr Sych, Deputy Director of the Department of EU and NATO Maksym Kononenko, as well as the Head of the National Commission on State Language Standards, Doctor of Philology, Professor Orysia Demska. The participants in the constitutional proceedings delivered closing speeches.
Judge-Rapporteur in the case Serhiy Holovaty informed that the case files include the opinion of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) on the law on ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as the state language.
After examining the case files in the public part of the plenary session, the Court proceeded to its in-camera part for a decision.
