Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Elected

 

On September 17, 2019, at a special plenary session of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Oleksandr Tupytskyi, a Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, was elected Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. Earlier in the day, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine dismissed the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala from the office of a Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in accordance with subparagraph 4 of paragraph 2 of Article 149¹ of the Constitution of Ukraine on the basis of her statement of resignation.

Pursuant to paragraph 6 of Article 33 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine”, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine shall be elected at a special plenary session of the Court for a single one three-year term by secret ballot.

Oleksandr Tupytskyi was appointed Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in May 2013 under the quota of the President of Ukraine. He took the oath of a Judge of Constitutional Court of Ukraine on May 15, 2013.

Serhiy Holovaty was elected Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. According to Article 34 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine”, the Deputy Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine shall be elected upon the proposal of the Chairman of the Court for a single three-year term by secret ballot.

Serhiy Holovaty was appointed Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in February 2018 under the quota of the President of Ukraine. He took the oath of a Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on March 2, 2018.
