Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin and Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Petro Stetsiukparticipated in the International Judicial and Legal Forum
Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin and Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Petro Stetsiuk participated in the III International Judicial and Legal Forum "Judiciary Reform in Ukraine: European Vector" held on March 19-20, 2015 in Kyiv at the Supreme Court of Ukraine.
At the beginning of the forum the participants were welcomed by the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Ukraine Yaroslav Romaniuk, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Full Member of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine Natalia Kuznetsova, Head of the EU Project "Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine" Virgilijus Valančius, Chief editor of the all-Ukrainian periodical publication "Legal practice" Rustam Kolesnik.
The forum was attended by heads of the higher courts of Ukraine, Council of Judges of Ukraine, High Qualifications Commission of Judges of Ukraine, judges, representatives of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the Administration of the President of Ukraine, government officials, academics, lawyers and attorneys of the leading law firms in Ukraine, international experts on the implementation of European standards in the judicial systems from Lithuania, Poland and Finland.
Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Full Member of National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine Yurii Baulin presented a report devoted to the problematic issues of distinction of the jurisdiction of the Constitutional and Supreme Courts of Ukraine.
Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Petro Stetsiuk presented a report: "The Constitutional Court of Ukraine: between the post-Soviet past and the European future".
During the forum the participants raised the issues on further steps in judicial reform inUkraine, including relevant amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, the reform of the High Council of Justice, enforcement proceedings, advocacy, improvement of the procedural law, the system of free legal aid and implementation of the electronic proceedings. They also discussed specific features of realisation of the agreement with the EU in the field of justice, the problems of the institutional differentiation of courts and so on.
