On December 16-17, 2025, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia held a round table discussion entitled “Public interest as a ground for exercising constitutional control”.
The event was attended by judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleg Pervomayskiy (head of delegation), Oleksandr Vodiannikov, Viktor Gorodovenko, Viktor Kychun, Alla Oliinyk, Vasyl Lemak, Galyna Yurovska, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia Irēna Kucina, Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia Anita Rodiņa, judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia Jautrīte Briede, Juris Juriss, Mārtiņš Mits, Veronika Krūmiņa, Project manager of the “Support to development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine”, implemented within the framework of the European Union and the Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, Phase ІІІ, Siuzanna Mnatsakanian, representatives of the Council of Europe, experts.
During the discussions, participants focused on issues of public and private interests in constitutional law, the specifics of initiating proceedings and exercising constitutional control, as well as practical aspects of protecting constitutional rights and freedoms. Particular attention was paid to the work of the constitutional justice body in Ukraine under martial law and the implementation of European standards in its activities.
The judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine took part in a meeting with the President of the Republic of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, during which they discussed the integration of the Ukrainian legal system into the common European legal space and the role of constitutional justice in ensuring the rule of law and strengthening democracy.
The 4th Technical Project Committee Meeting of the Project “Support to development of the constitutional justice in Ukraine”, implemented within the framework of the European Union and the Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance”, Phase ІІІ, during which the results achieved, the strategic development needs of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, and areas for further cooperation were discussed.
Awards Ceremony was held to mark the 29th anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia. The Constitutional Court of Ukraine was awarded with Letter of Excellence for its significant contribution to strengthening democracy and the rule of law, developing judicial dialogue and protecting constitutional values, as well as for its dedicated service to its state and people.
