On May 2–3, 2023, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, consisting of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleh Pervomaiskyi (head of the delegation), Oksana Hryschuk and Vasyl Lemak, stayed in Vienna (Republic of Austria) upon the invitation of the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairman-in-Office – Project Coordinator in Ukraine, ambassador Henrik Villadsen.
At the headquarters of the OSCE on May 2, the delegation participated in the Conference “OSCE Support to Ukrainian Constitutionalism: What Can be Built on the Legacy of the Constitution of 3 May 1791?”, dedicated to the anniversary of the adoption of the Rzecz Pospolita’s Constitution.
During the event, which was organised by the permanent missions of Ukraine and the Republic of Lithuania to international organizations in Vienna, as well as the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the OSCE, and attended by ambassadors and representatives from OSCE participating states, judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine informed those in attendance about the challenges that have arisen before the body of constitutional jurisdiction of Ukraine in times of war. The discussion centered on the safeguarding of constitutional values during national and regional emergencies.
Within the panel devoted to issues of interaction between the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the OSCE, the participants of the event discussed the key priorities for future cooperation within the framework of the project “Support for National Partners in Improving Access to Constitutional Justice”, which could improve the protection of human rights and the establishment of the rule of law.
In addition, the delegation of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine held working meetings with OSCE Secretary General Helga Maria Schmid, Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the International Organizations in Vienna Yevhenii Tsymbaliuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Austria Vasyl Khymynets, the permanent representatives of the Republic of Lithuania and the Republic of Poland to the OSCE and others.
During their stay in Vienna, the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine also visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Austria, where they held a working meeting with the President of the Court, Christoph Grabenwarter. The parties discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest to the bodies of constitutional jurisdiction of Ukraine and Austria, as well as ways to further cooperation.
