The judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine held a meeting with the representative of the Council of Europe Lilja Grétarsdóttir

Today, on 20 January, judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Viktor Gorodovenko, Oleksandr Petryshyn, Oleg Pervomayskiy, Serhii Riznyk and Galyna Yurovska held a working meeting with Lilja Grétarsdóttir, Head of the Department for the Implementation of Human Rights, Justice and Legal Cooperation Standards of the Directorate General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe.

This is Lilja Grétarsdóttir first visit to the Constitutional Court after her appointment to the office, however she has been working on projects in Ukraine for many years.

The parties expressed appreciation with the opportunity to continue dialogue and fruitful cooperation with the Council of Europe, in particular within the framework of the Project “Support to the Development of Constitutional Justice in Ukraine”, which, according to them, will only strengthen and grow.

The judges noted that the assistance of the Council of Europe and the EU through project cooperation contributes to the development of constitutional justice in Ukraine, the implementation of European standards and accelerates Ukraine's accession to the EU.

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine highly appreciates the joint activities with the CoE within the framework of the project “Support to the Development of Constitutional Justice in Ukraine”, “Partnership for Good Governance”, Phase III. “The success of the Project is obvious. Thanks to it, we are finding new forms of cooperation to improve the work of the Constitutional Court. It has facilitated the exchange of experience with the constitutional jurisdiction of an EU member state and the study of new approaches to addressing the issues facing the Constitutional Court on the path of Ukraine's accession to the EU “, said Judge Oleksandr Petryshyn.

At the end of the meeting, the parties thanked for the informative conversation and expressed their hope for continued fruitful cooperation, in particular in the field of constitutional justice.
