Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk and Ihor Slidenko took part in the XIX International Congress on European and Comparative Constitutional Law
On June 8–9, judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk and Ihor Slidenko took part in the XIX International Congress on European and Comparative Constitutional Law on "Constitutional justice and the development of individual rights", which took place in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. Traditionally, for 18 years this event initiated by professor of the University of Regensburg Rainer Arnold was held in Regensburg (Germany).
XIX International Congress on European and Comparative Constitutional Law was organised with the support of the German Foundation for International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova.
The event was attended by representatives of about 20 countries of Europe and Latin America, including constitutional jurisdiction and scientific institutions, representatives of the constitutional control bodies of Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Georgia, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Chile, Montenegro, and Sweden.
Among the scholars involved in the congress there were representatives from the University of Bologna (Italy), the University of Budapest (Hungary), the University of Bucharest (Romania), the University of Wroclaw (Poland), the University of Gdańsk (Poland), the European Humanities University (Lithuania), the Erebor University (Sweden), Charles University (Czech Republic), the Papal Catholic University of São Paulo (Brazil), the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (Chile), the University of Regensburg (Germany), the University of Strasbourg (France), the University of Zagreb (Croatia), the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis (France), the University of Tirana (Albania), Jean Monnet University (France), the University of Alba-Julia (Romania), Mykolas Romeris University (Lithuania), the University of Insubria (Italy), University of Perugia (Italy), Ankara University (Turkey), Pavol Jozef Šafárik University (Slovakia), Moldova State University and other educational institutions. Ukrainian scholars Nataliia Mushak (National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine) and Viktor Muraviyov (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) took part in the event.
Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk and Ihor Slidenko presented the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
At the opening of the Congress, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova Tudor Panțîru expressed gratitude to professor of the University of Regensburg Rainer Arnold for the great contribution he had made "to the development of constitutional law and constitutional academic doctrine".
In his turn, professor Arnold thanked for the hospitality and high level of the organisation of the event, and noted that for many years the University of Regensburg and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova and the research institutions of the country have maintained fruitful long-term cooperation.
President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova (2011-2017) Alexandru Tănase, who initiated the organisation of the Congress in the capital of Moldova, stressed "its relevance in the context of the protection of human rights and constitutional justice, which are important elements for ensuring democracy and the rule of law".
The programme of the event included two sections – English and French. Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk moderated the section of English–language reports. In addition, the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Stanislav Shevchuk and Ihor Slidenko took part in the discussion on constitutional justice and the development of individual citizens' rights.
At the end of the Congress, the solemn ceremony of conferring the title "Doctor Honoris Causa" to the professor of the University of Regensburg, the Head of Jean Monet Department on European Law Rainer Arnold was held.
This title is the most honourable award given to domestic and foreign scholars, scientists and educators, public figures for their special contribution to the development of legal science and education, high professional and moral authority in educational circles and in society.
