Meeting of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with the Head of the EU

Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine

 

On March 7, 2017 Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin held a meeting with the Head of the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine Kęstutis Lančinskas at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

During the meeting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Yurii Baulin informed the guests on the activities of the Court and the powers facing it in view of the adopted amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine in part of justice. In particular, it concerns the empowerment of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with an additional mechanism to protect human and citizen's rights and freedoms - constitutional complaint.

Yurii Baulin stressed that the Court has already received constitutional complaints, but the procedure for their proceedings will be provided for by the new wording of the Law on the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Head of the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine Kęstutis Lančinskas told about the successful work of the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine and agreed with the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine on the need for further fruitful international cooperation, and stressed the importance of round tables, colloquiums and other events whereat representatives from different countries will share experiences and discuss current issues of constitutional jurisdiction.

In addition, the sides discussed the implementation of initiatives to reform the constitutional justice as an integral part of the system of justice based on the rule of law, and determined that the EU Advisory Mission Ukraine within its authority will promote innovations in the activities of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.

Within the presidency of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions Yurii Baulin invited Kęstutis Lančinskas to participate in the Second Congress of the Association "The role of constitutional courts in the development of the provisions of national constitutions in the context of the generally recognized principles and norms of international law, EU law, decisions of international courts ", which will be held in late May this year.

The parties thanked each other for a meaningful meeting and expressed hope for fruitful cooperation.
