Oleksandr Vodiannikov appointed as a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

On Thursday, July 3, 2025, at a special plenary session of the Court, the newly appointed judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Vodiannikov took the oath. The text of the oath was certified by the judge with his personal signature.

The Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Oleksandr Petryshyn handed over a robe, a badge and a card of a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine to Judge Oleksandr Vodiannikov.

The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk, the representative of the President of Ukraine in the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhii Dembovskyi, the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Dmytro Lubinets, and the Chairman of the High Council of Justice Hryhorii Usyk addressed the audience with welcoming speeches.

On behalf of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Oleksandr Petryshyn congratulated Oleksandr Vodiannikov on assuming the powers of a judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine. “Today you become part of an institution that is the guardian of the Constitution – the Fundamental Law of our state, its legal values ​​and democratic principles. You are entrusted with an honourable mission – to stand guard over the rule of law, protect human and citizen’s rights and freedoms, as well as ensure the stability and integrity of the constitutional order of Ukraine,” he noted.

After Oleksandr Vodiannikov took the oath, the number of judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine is 12, which provides the necessary quorum of the Court for it to hold plenary sessions and deliver decisions in accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine”.

The Chairman of the High Qualification Commission of Judges of Ukraine Andrii Pasichnyk, the Chairman of the Association of Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhii Vdovichenko, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Legal Policy Denys Maslov and other officials, representatives of state authorities, the scientific community, and the media visited the  oath-taking ceremony.

The event was attended by representatives of foreign diplomatic missions and international organisations, in particular, Chargé d'Affaires of the United States of America to Ukraine John Ginkel, Chargé d'Affaires of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Ukraine Charlotte Surun, Permanent Deputy Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Ukraine Maximilian Rasch, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Maciej Janczak, Head of Section for European Integration, Governance and Rule of Law, Civil Society at the EU Delegation to Ukraine Asier Santillan, Senior Advisor, Head of the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine Karin Roelke, Head of Operations of the OSCE Support Programme for Ukraine Pierre Baussand, Second Secretary of the Embassy of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Ukraine Josh Collier, Manager of the Project “Support to the Development of Constitutional Justice in Ukraine”, implemented within the framework of the EU-Council of Europe joint programme “Partnership for Good Governance” Siuzanna Mnatsakanian. President of the Administrative Chamber, Judge of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Estonia Ivo Pilving and Judge of the Criminal Chamber of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Estonia Paavo Randma also visited the ceremony.
