Regular BBCJ’s working meeting
On June 29, 2017 the regular working meeting of the presidents of the constitutional courts – members of the Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions (BBCJ) chaired by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine this year, was held in Batumi, Georgia.
The meeting was attended by Acting Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Viktor Kryvenko, President of the Constitutional Court of Georgia Zaza Tavadze, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania Dainius Žalimas, President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Moldova Tudor Panţîru, Judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Mykola Melnyk, Ihor Slidenko and Stanislav Shevchuk.
Presidency of the Association is held by the President of each member of the Association for a one-year term. The presidency rotates on the basis of the alphabetical order of the names of the states represented by the members of the Association. From January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018 the Presidency of the Association will be taken over by the Constitutional Court of Georgia.
During the meeting preparation of the Third Congress and the General Assembly of the Association, venue and date, agenda as well as the enlargement of the Association were discussed.
Among the issues, considered during the meeting, the most urgent is still independence of the constitutional courts, harmonisation of norms and principles of international law and national legislation, implementation of the experience of the European colleagues and case-law of the European Court of Human Rights in the jurisprudence of the bodies of constitutional jurisdiction of the countries participating in the Association.
Association of Constitutional Justice of the Countries of the Baltic and Black Sea Regions is a successful platform for developing joint projects and is important for participating countries as well as for other institutions of constitutional jurisdiction in the Baltic and Black Sea regions.
