During a stay in Sofia to participate in the XXX Congress of the International Federation of European Law (FIDE), Acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Serhiy Holovaty visited the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria on 1 June this year, where the meeting with the President of the Court, Mrs. Pavlina Panova, took place.
The parties had a discussion on the functioning of the constitutional jurisdiction bodies of both countries, in particular their powers, structure, and the challenges they are currently facing.
Another issue to be discussed was the development of bilateral cooperation between the constitutional courts of Ukraine and the Republic of Bulgaria. The interlocutors expressed their mutual interest in strengthening relations following the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Constitutional Court of Ukraine and the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, signed in June 2009.
Serhiy Holovaty expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, Mrs. Pavlina Panova, for the letter of solidarity and support sent to the Constitutional Court of Ukraine from the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the russian federation at the end of February 2022.
At the end of the meeting, Serhiy Holovaty presented the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria with a four-language edition (Latin, Old Slavic, modern Ukrainian and English) of the text of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk of 1710, stressing that this document is the „golden crown of the Ukrainian legal heritage“.
