A Swedish scholar visited the Constitutional Court of Ukraine
On September 22, 2017 First Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Larysa Biriuk held a meeting with PhD Candidate in Public International Law of the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES) and Faculty of Law at Uppsala University, Sweden, Ausra Padskocimaité at the Constitutional Court of Ukraine.
First Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Larysa Biriuk welcomed the visitor and expressed hope for mutual benefit from this meeting.
Ausra Padskocimaité thanked for the opportunity to get acquainted with the activity of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, and explained the purpose of her visit. She noted that she had conducted a case study on the role of national constitutional courts in executing judgments of the European Court of Human Rights in post-Soviet countries, thus, it remains extremely relevant for her to include Ukraine in this study.
The Swedish scholar was interested in interpretation of the constitutional rights by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, the impact of the European Convention on Human Rights on the protection of human rights in Ukraine, as well as the role of the Constitutional Court in executing court judgments.
Larysa Biriuk told Ausra Padskocimaité about the powers of 
the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with regard to the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine and the adopted Law on the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, in particular the introduction of the constitutional complaint.
She noted that the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in its decisions refers to the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights and provided a number of examples. Larysa Biriuk added that it is important that the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine in their work pay much attention to understanding the content of the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine through the principle of the rule of law and the ECHR jurisprudence.
First Deputy Head of the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Larysa Biriuk described, in particular, the legal positions of the Court on understanding the content of human rights guaranteed by the Constitution of Ukraine, as well as the ways of interpretation applied by the Constitutional Court of Ukraine when considering cases.
At the end of the meeting, Ausra Padskocimaité, PhD Candidate in Public International Law of the Institute for Russian and Eurasian Studies (IRES) and Faculty of Law at Uppsala University, Sweden, thanked for a useful and meaningful conversation.
