Visit of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala and Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine
of Serhiy Holovaty to France

On September 12-13, 2019 upon the invitation of the Constitutional Council of France, the Council of State and the Court of Cassation of France Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala and Judge of the Court Serhiy Holovaty paid a visit to Paris, France, in order to participate in the Conference of the Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the Council of Europe Member States.

First President of the Court of Cassation of France Bertrand Louvel, Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation of France François Molins, President of the Constitutional Council of France Laurent Fabius, Vice-President of the Council of State Bruno Lasserre, President of the European Court of Human Rights Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjørn Jagland and Minister of Justice of France Nicole Belloubet delivered opening and closing speeches at the event.

Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala and the Judge of the Court Serhiy Holovaty participated in the workshop "Relations between National Courts and the European Court of Human Rights", held at the Council of State.

Within the framework of the visit Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala had a number of working meetings, in particular with the First President of the Court of Cassation of France Bertrand Louvel and President of the Constitutional Council of France Laurent Fabius, to exchange views on the situation of respect for human rights in Ukraine and France as well as further cooperation in order to develop constitutional justice.

The Conference of the Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the Council of Europe Member States was held under the French Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which began on May 17, 2019. Respect for human rights is one of the priorities of the Committee of Ministers.

In addition, upon the personal invitation of the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Natalia Shaptala attended the reception on the occasion of the Conference of the Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of the Council of Europe Member States, held at the Élysée Palace.
