Visit of the Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Ihor Slidenko to the Republic of Lithuania

On October 4-5, 2019 Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Ihor Slidenko participated in the XXII International Congress on European and Comparative Constitutional Law on "The Concept of Democracy Developed by the Bodies of Constitutional Justice", held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

XXII International Congress on European and Comparative Constitutional Law was organised by the The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania, together with Professor Rainer Arnold from the University of Regensburg (Germany).

Representatives of about 28 countries, including the constitutional jurisdictions and academic institutions of Republic of Albania, Kingdom of Belgium, Republic of Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Republic of Brazil, Czech Republic, French Republic, Georgia, Federal Republic of Germany, Italian Republic, Kosovo, Republic of Lithuania, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Republic of Moldova, Montenegro, Republic of Poland, Portuguese Republic, Romania, Slovak Republic, Kingdom of Sweden, USA participated in the event.

President of the Committee on Legal Affairs of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania Agne Shirinskene, the Mayor of Vilnius Remigijus Šimašius and the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the Mykolas Romeris University Lyra Jakulevičienė welcomed the participants of the Congress.

President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Lithuania Dainius Žalimas and Professor of the Regensburg University Rainer Arnold presented key reports.

The programme traditionally included two sections - English and French. Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Ihor Slidenko presented a report: “The concept of democracy in the context of new horizons of the Ukrainian Constitution. Philosophical and conceptual basis”. He also participated in the discussion of the most pressing and important constitutional and legal issues.

The event has become a platform for professional debate on the role of constitutional justice in the development of the constitutional concept of democracy, as well as on the protection of democracy through constitutional law.
