On Thursday, August 31, 2023, Acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Serhiy Holovaty, and the judges of the Court, Oleh Pervomaiskyi and Olha Sovhyria, held a meeting with the representative of the Directorate General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe – head of Division at the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights of the Directorate General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Pavlo Pushkar.
The interlocutors exchanged views on the state of execution of the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, in particular in the cases delivered in respect of Ukraine, which are currently under the supervision of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The protection of citizens’ social rights in the aspect of Russia's armed aggression against Ukraine was discussed during the meeting.
In addition to the above, the judges emphasised the importance of amending the Law of Ukraine, which ratified Protocol No. 16 to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, in order to grant the Constitutional Court of Ukraine the right to apply for an advisory opinion to the European Court of Human Rights.
During the meeting, Acting Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Serhiy Holovaty, stated: “We try to strengthen the reasoning of each decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine with the case law of the European Court of Human Rights”.
The parties agreed on further forms of cooperation.
