Mykhailo Kostytskyi

 

Mykhailo Kostytskyi was born in 1948 in Zarichchia, Ivano-Frankivsk region in a peasant's family.

He began his working career at “Nadvirnianskyi” State Farm as worker of a building brigade.

From 1966 till 1971 he studied at the Law Faculty of Lviv Ivan Franko State University (at present – Ivan Franko National University of Lviv).

From 1971 he was a consultant at the Justice Department of Lviv Regional Executive Committee.

From 1973 he worked at Lviv Ivan Franko State University as an assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Process, professor of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Dean of the Law Faculty.

In 1990 – 1994 he worked as a research consultant at the Commission of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Law Enforcement and Combating Crime. He participated in drafting the Laws of Ukraine “On militia”, “On prosecutor’s office”, “On operative and investigatory activities”, “On legal expertise” and others.

In 1994 he was elected People's Deputy of Ukraine and Head of the Sub-Commission on Legal Policy and Legislative Planning of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. From November 1994 he was a member of the Constitutional Commission.

In 1995 – 1997 he was the Vice-Rector on scientific work, and from 1997 –professor of the Department of Philosophy at National Academy of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.

In October 1996 he was appointed Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Doctor of Legal Sciences, Professor, Full Member of the Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine.

Distinguished Lawyer of Ukraine.

Mykhailo Kostytskyi’s authorities of a Judge of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine were terminated on October 19, 2005.
